Frequently asked questions
Getting started
What is PETTO?
PETTO is an app for iPhone and Android that keeps your pets' everyday care in one place: meals, medicine, walks, grooming and vet visits. It reminds you when something is due, keeps a history of what's been done, and gives you an assistant you can ask about your pet.
Is PETTO free?
Yes. PETTO is free to use and shows no ads. The free plan includes 1 pet, 5 assistant messages a day and 3 vet documents per pet, with care plans, reminders and health records. PETTO Plus adds more, for a monthly or yearly price.
How do I sign in?
With your email address and password, or with your Apple or Google account. If you signed up with email, you can also sign in with your username instead of your email.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot your password?, enter your email or username, then the 6-digit code we email you. You can then choose a new password, and you're signed in right away. Accounts made with Apple or Google don't have a PETTO password: sign in with that button instead.
How do I change my password?
Open your Account and tap Password. Enter your current password and your new one twice, then the code we email you to confirm it's you. Your other devices are signed out.
I didn't receive the code
A code can take a minute to arrive. Check your spam or junk folder, and that your email address is right. After 30 seconds, you can tap Resend code.
Which pets can I add?
Dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, turtles, snakes, lizards, frogs, parrots, ferrets, chinchillas, hedgehogs, horses, pigs, goats, chickens and ducks, and you can type in any other kind of pet. You can keep up to three pets at a time.
How do I add a pet?
Describe your pet in your own words: type it, tap the microphone and say it, or add a photo and PETTO describes the pet it sees. PETTO's AI then fills in the profile and suggests a routine to start from. You can also fill in the form step by step. You can change everything afterwards.
Care and reminders
How do I add or change an activity?
On Home, tap Add care activity (or one of the quick suggestions) to open New Activity. Choose the type of care, the time, how often it repeats and when you'd like to be reminded. Tap an activity to mark it done, skip it or edit it.
How do reminders work?
Each activity can remind you at its time, with an optional heads-up before it. You can turn reminders off for any activity. They need notifications to be allowed for PETTO in your phone's settings: Notifications, in PETTO's Settings, shows whether they're on and takes you there. Your phone keeps the next two days of reminders itself, so they ring even without a connection.
I didn't get a reminder. What can I check?
Make sure notifications are allowed for PETTO, that Focus, Do Not Disturb or battery saving isn't holding them back, and that you're signed in. If you force-stopped PETTO, open it again so your phone can schedule its reminders. On Android, allow Reminders on time in PETTO's Settings so they ring on the minute. Activities keep the time zone they were set up in, so check your schedule if you've travelled. Reminders can't be guaranteed, so don't rely on them alone for medication.
Where can I see past care?
The History tab shows what was done, skipped or missed on any day, for each pet, with a calendar to move between days. An activity nobody marked is recorded as missed: medicine and appointments 48 hours after they were due (until then they stay under Overdue on Home), everything else at the end of its day. Tap a missed one to mark it done or skipped after all.
Does PETTO work offline?
Partly. Home and your pets show what was last loaded on your phone, and you can mark activities done or skipped: PETTO sends them once you're back online, with the time you tapped. The next two days of reminders ring offline too. Other things, like adding activities, the assistant, History and health records, need a connection, and PETTO tells you when they do.
Widgets
How do I add a PETTO widget?
PETTO has two widgets: Daily care, with your pet's activities for today, and Next care, with what your pet needs next. On iPhone, touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen, tap Edit (or +), then search for PETTO. Next care also fits on the lock screen: touch and hold the lock screen, then tap Customize. On Android, touch and hold the home screen, tap Widgets and find PETTO. Open PETTO once first, so the widgets can be set up.
Can I tick off care from a widget?
Yes: tap the circle next to an activity to mark it done (on iPhone, this needs iOS 17 or later). The widget shows Waiting to sync until PETTO sends it, the next time the app runs, with the time you tapped. Until then, a reminder for it may still arrive. Switch pet and Ask the assistant open the app.
Which pet does a widget show?
The pet you last chose in PETTO. Tap Switch pet on the widget, or pick another pet in the app, and the widgets follow.
Why does my widget ask me to open PETTO?
Widgets show what the app last saved on your phone, up to two days ahead, without going online themselves. If PETTO hasn't run for a while, or you've just signed in, open it and the widget catches up. When you sign out, the widgets clear and ask you to sign in.
Health records
What's in a pet's health record?
Open the menu and tap Health Records. For the pet you've selected, it keeps vaccinations, vet visits, medicines, allergies and conditions, your vet's contact details, the microchip number and whether your pet is spayed or neutered. Coming up shows what's due next, and each vaccine shows whether it's up to date, due soon or overdue.
How do I add to it?
Tap one of the Quick add buttons (Vaccination, Vet visit, Medicine…) or Add in a section, fill in what you know and save. Tap an entry to edit or delete it. You can also tell the assistant, for example “Mino had her rabies shot today”, and add the entry it prepares with a tap.
Will PETTO remind me of vaccines and vet visits?
Yes, by itself. When an entry has a date ahead (a vaccination or its next dose, a vet visit or its follow-up, a surgery or a course of medicine), PETTO adds a reminder to your pet's care, and you'll see it on Home on that day. Change or clear the date and the reminder follows. You can edit or delete these reminders like any other activity.
Can PETTO read my vet papers?
Yes. When you add a pet, or later in Health Records (Documents, then Add vet documents), you can add up to 3 vet documents per pet (5 with PETTO Plus), such as vaccine cards, vet notes or test results, as photos or PDF files of up to 10 MB each. PETTO's AI reads them and fills in the health record and profile, then shows you everything before it's saved, and marks anything it's unsure of so you can check it against the original. If a document disagrees with your pet's profile, you choose which to keep. You'll find the documents in Health Records afterwards.
Are my vet documents private?
Yes. They're kept as private files that only open through a link that stops working after a few minutes, and they're deleted when you delete the document, the pet or your account. PETTO keeps only what concerns your pet's health. Our privacy policy has the details.
How do I export the health record as a PDF?
Exporting the health record is part of PETTO Plus. In Health Records, tap the download button at the top right, or ask the assistant for it. PETTO makes the PDF in the app's language and opens your phone's share sheet, so you can save it to Files or send it to your vet, a pet sitter or a kennel.
Is the PDF an official vaccination certificate?
No. It's a clear summary of what you keep in PETTO, handy to show your vet, but it isn't a veterinary certificate. For travel or official proof of vaccination, ask your vet.
PETTO assistant
What can the assistant do?
Open the Assistant tab to chat about the pet you've selected: its health, food, behaviour, training, grooming and daily care. It knows your pet's profile, schedule and health record, so you can ask things like “When is the next walk?” or “When is the next vaccine due?”. Ask it to remind you of something, or tell it about a vaccine or a vet visit, and it prepares it for you to add with a tap. It can also make your pet's health record PDF.
Can I send a photo or speak to the assistant?
Yes. Attach a photo (a rash, a food label, a medicine box…) and the assistant looks at it along with your question. Tap the microphone to speak your message instead of typing it.
How many messages can I send?
5 a day on the free plan, and 25 with PETTO Plus. Your allowance starts again at midnight, and your Account shows how many you have left today.
How do I clear a conversation?
In the Assistant tab, open the menu at the top and choose Clear conversation. Your messages about that pet are deleted; activities you added stay in its care.
Is PETTO a veterinarian?
No. PETTO, including its assistant, helps you organise your pet's care and gives general guidance, but it can't examine, diagnose or prescribe. For anything about your pet's health, talk to your vet, and in an emergency contact a vet or an emergency clinic straight away.
How does PETTO use AI?
PETTO's AI provider is Anthropic (Claude). It receives your pet descriptions, the photos you ask it to describe, your voice descriptions once your phone has turned them into text, the vet documents you add, and your assistant messages with your pet's profile, schedule and health record. Anthropic may not train its models on what PETTO sends it. Read more in our privacy policy.
PETTO Plus
What does PETTO Plus add?
The free plan includes 1 pet, 5 assistant messages a day, 3 vet documents per pet and 5 documents read a day. PETTO Plus raises these to 5 pets, 25 messages a day, 5 documents per pet and 20 read a day, and adds the health record as a PDF. Care plans, reminders, History and health records stay free for everyone.
How much does it cost?
$3.99 a month or $29.99 a year in the United States (about $2.50 a month). The App Store or Google Play shows the price in your currency before you buy. The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial, once per person.
How does the free trial work?
Choose the yearly plan and tap Start free trial. Plus unlocks straight away, and nothing is charged for 7 days. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your yearly subscription then starts and you're charged. Your Account shows when the trial ends.
How do I cancel?
Open the menu and tap PETTO Plus (or Account, then Manage subscription), then Manage in the App Store or Manage in Google Play, and turn renewal off there. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.
Can I get a refund?
Payments go through Apple or Google, and so do refunds: on an iPhone, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com; on Android, from your order history in Google Play. If you get a refund, Plus ends straight away.
I changed phones. How do I get Plus back?
Sign in to the same PETTO account and tap Restore purchases in your Account (or Restore on the PETTO Plus screen), with the Apple or Google account you bought it with.
What happens when Plus ends?
You go back to the free plan and keep everything: all your pets, plans, reminders, history and documents. Until you subscribe again, you can't add more pets or documents than the free plan allows, and the assistant and document reading follow its daily limits.
Account and privacy
Can I change the language or use dark mode?
Yes. In Settings, choose English, Français or العربية, and a Light, Dark or System appearance.
Where can I see and manage my data?
Open the menu and tap Privacy Center. It explains in plain words what PETTO keeps, and takes you to your name, your pets, your notifications, your phone's permissions and account deletion. To get a copy of your data, send a privacy request from there.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open your Account (or the Privacy Center) and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your pets' information, health records and vet documents, and your conversations with the assistant. Our privacy policy explains what may remain and for how long. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a PETTO Plus subscription: cancel it first in your App Store or Google Play settings.
How do I report a problem?
Open the menu and tap Report App Issue, with a screenshot if it helps, or write to us using the details on this page.
